It is a good cast but everyone is trying oh so hard to be so dark and deep. If they reigned it in a bit this movie could be watchable. Maybe.

Obvious ending and story, but the actors save much of the underwhelming script that have no surprises or intensity. The movie will mostly be remembered for two things though: Patrick Swayze's last movie role as a pimp and Jessica Biel's nude stage performance.
not bad for last Swayze, very soothing. a bit of Crying Game and Crash, but far too...made to touch.

That is not to discount Biel whom is very good, but her character is typical stripper-on-drugs type, which does not help her, and Forrest Whitaker is strong as usual, but his whole story-line (which is the one that involves Kudrow) does not fit in at all, and there is no attempt to make it do so, which really does slow things; the pace of the movie without that story probably would have been fine. The director also tries to give us emotional moments, when none should be there. Ray Liotta is sleepwalking his easy to figure out role, and the film never raises above it's Crash/ Magnolia ties. Overall, a mess, with a few strong performances with nowhere to go.
Intense! This would be the true miracle in play. I rather enjoyed the writing. Ray Liotta & Forest Whitaker were very convincing. This is raw. A lil' risque` & I love that in a film! Makes for non-monotony :) Great directing. I'll watch it again some... (read more) Intense! This would be the true miracle in play. I rather enjoyed the writing. I'll watch it again someday, as there are more messages within' that'll be discovered a second-time around. Way to go Partick Swayze - you made the part perfectly.

But in the end it's giving you a big disappointment with some stupid point of views dramatically and visually. Most of the Biel/Redmayne/Liotta scenes are highly entertaining but Whitaker parts are unnecessary and they're not at all related to the movie.
