Arabs committing massive ethnic cleansing in retaliation to terrorist acts made by non-Arabs who wish to seize control of the country (Both sides are Muslims) and the international community is too impotent to intervene. A Must See!

And the fact that we stand by with closed eyes when terrible things happen to innocent people is just sickening. The fact that what is happening in Darfur is not the first time we have stood idly by when it comes to Africa is also very bad.

A somewhat comprehensive introduction to the attrocities that are taking place in Darfur, its genesis and its unpredictable future all distilled into a very compact hour and a half. The most compelling moments in the documentary are when the images take over. In one riveting and horrifying sequence, the African Union Observers watch helplessly as Janjaweed ride in to the refugee camps and torch civilian huts in full-view, their hands tied because of a 'mandate' decreed by the impotent AU. In another, a montage of drawings by the children of Darfur reveal incomprehensible horrors witnessed by these young eyes. The film effectively conjures outrage and indignation that such horrors are allowed to exist today. The only people who come off less horribly than the politicians in charge are the Janjaweed and the Sudanese Liberation Army. The ultimate lingering question the film leaves us with is best articulated by humanitarian Elie Wiesel in its final postscript: How are they going to live now?
powerful advocacy piece. george bush really has his finger in all of the horrible events all over the world
I saw this film last night at the MK2 on Bvd St Germain and was the only person in the theater. Batman was playing in the next theater and sold out. But we know there is something wrong with our social conscience.

This film is one of those must sees, not necessarily because it is a brilliant film, but because it is polemical and untiring in its exposure of the genocide in Darfur. It's on the same bandwaggon as the outcry by stars such as Mia Farrow and George Clooney for the Chinese to do something - like impose sanctions - on the Sudanese govt. But my solitude in the movie theater last night is telling of how important the world thinks these people are.
It's a harrowing film because it's a harrowing story ... see it, and be prepared to come out with a clenched fist in the air.
Most in-depth documentary about Darfur and the history leading up to the current situation there that I have seen yet.

Not only is it powerful and troubling in the way you would expect, but the reasons for the lack of action are truly dismaying - a desire to finish a peace process, the cozy relationship between CIA and Sudanese intelligence agencies due to the "Global War on Terror". It is heartening to see young people, ranging from junior high school through college taking the issues seriously and pushing for change.
A must see.
