(read more) es un film totalmente aburrido, sin vida sin gracia!!!! y primera vez que la presencia de Keira Kgnitley me aturde, pues su esquematica presencia como mujer de epoca resulta cansina y raya en el sentido comun, no mas ella en este tipo de peliculas, ni de duquesa ni de reina ni de sierva no mas!!!!! su actuacion aqui es tan pobre que no entiendo porque acepto participar en este film.Asi mismo la actuacion del joven michael pitt que por su inexperiencia no logra abordar el perfil del personaje, si no le creyeron a jack en titanic o sea a leonardo di caprio realizar un personaje aventurero de mundo, menos este muchacho, no entiendo aun como es posible que los que realizaron esta pelicula hayan permitido esto, el muchacho no se le cree ni el nombre, es tal falsa su actuacion que forma parte de la sobriedad excesiva del film y de lso frecuentes desgastes paisajisticos del film. Es un reto terminar de ver esta pelicula, y no es recomendada para aquellos que quieran una realizacion de epoca a la medida de los tiempos modernos.

I thought it was a beautiful though sad love story. It did drag on a bit but the sceneries were breathtaking...

Beautifully shot, but thin on story, it lacked dramatic impact, although the 'love story' was there, and could have been expanded upon. Red Violin still remains Girard's best.

the music and cinematgraphy were excellent, especially the contrast of cold wintery japan and flower blooming french garden, japanese hot springs x keira in ocean etc.
the story remineded me a bit of Anthony Minghella film. i liked those letters. i wouldn't die though. and i definitely wouldn't write that 2nd letter...
it was weird to hear english while it was set in france. (for JP part, japanese actors spoke in japanese so that was fine.) i am afraid there weren't many such "erotic" women or women can write such letters in japan in that era...

Maybe one has to be French to be able to appreciate this film? Apart from cinematography there's nothing interesting. And why made it an English film? If all actors speak French then maybe it'll bring some merit to this dull and boring piece of work.

It was a decent movie, but I've definitely seen better lately, but at least it wasn't as depressing as Atonement, the other Keira Knightley period piece I saw recently.
