The hype and the expectations were huge - Vanessa Paradis, a cultural icon, coupled with Gerard Depardieu, also an icon. Finally, it was the return of Jean Becker after a ten year absence (his previous film, L'ete meutrier, made a star out of Isabelle Adjani - could he do the same for Vanessa - she of limited vocal skill, but nevertheless, hugely popular?). An absolute winner of a film!
