An interesting portrayal of court life in merry old England. While a bit of poetic license was taken with the historical facts, this was an enjoyable film, which caught the familiable foibles of these times pretty well.

A well acted film by all. Not a masterpiece in the manner of the earlier Richard Burton pieces; but, an enjoyable way to while away an hour or two.
Hurried narrative. What I originally interpreted as mediocre acting was really as reviewer Lewis C. said- overly simplistic and two-dimensional characters. Got it on Blu-Ray! The movie is worh watching just for Portman and Johansson.
for a period piece it wasn't bad. I didn't read the book, but I got bored during different parts of the movie.
i enjoyed it. im not sure the movie was trying to take itself too seriously. it played more like a bodice ripper brought to life, than a serious historical drama. however there were alot of great performances in it. I stongly suspect that some "creative liberties" were taken, in regards to the accuracy of the material. but it was still enjoyable. Lets be honest..anything with eric bana in it tends to be!
OMG!!!! This movie was absolutely awesome!! I freak out when they was going to do it!! Scarlett Johansson, Eric Bana and Natalie Portman (even that I hate her) did a wonderful job, the plot amazing, the costume...just everything!!

Let's face it, it's a huge soap opera and if they can't offer us something historically truthful, at least make it fun - and that's exactly what they did! Portman, Johansson and Bana are terrific and it's clear that Portman relished the opportunity to play a woman so driven (okay, she was sort of a massive bitch). I also loved Kristen Scott Thomas and wished that she had more screen time, she was wonderful in the few scenes she had and she really packed an emotional punch.
At this rate there will be at least as many movies about Herny VIII as of Hamlet.

[An] oversimplified, overheated mediocre melodrama.full review
After covering much of its ground at a stylish canter, The Other Boleyn Girl finishes at a plod.full review
The Other Boleyn Girl is an agreeable piece of filmmaking, carefully and sometimes artfully balancing solemnity with fluff.full review
However embarrassed you might feel in the morning, this in an enjoyable movie with an entertaining angle on a hard-to-resist period of history.full review
A genteel soap opera in which the sex and intrigue are so muted, so tasteful, that they practically blow off the screen in a scattering of dust.full review
The film moves in frustrating herks and jerks. What works is the combustible teaming of Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson, who give the Boleyn hotties a tough core of intelligence and wit.full review
Portman, Johansson and Bana may be hot, but they can't light a match next to the emotional fireworks of Richard Burton, Genevieve Bujold, Paul Scofield, Vanessa Redgrave and Robert Shaw.full review
And what of these young American actresses' putting on British accents to vie for the king? They seem, at first, like coeds in a college production of The Importance of Being Earnest, but once the dislocation fades, their commitment wins you over.full review
