Exhumes archival footage of official distortion and exaggeration from LBJ to George W. Bush, revealing how the news media have uncritically disseminated the messages of successive presidential administrations. Guided by media critic Norman Solomon''s research and analysis, the film pays special attention to parallels between the Vietnam war and the war in Iraq.

Interesting documentary... How we are programmed in these walled gardens, its all common knowledge... but still, we all fall to the propaganda...

as americans, we need to watch these sort of documentaries and realize the truth... let the people be heard. democracy is not an excuse for war. check it out if you like documentaries and/or politics/etc.
Let's hope Obama breaks rank from the propaganda of Bush, Clinton, Bush, Reagan, Nixon, Johnson (at least Carter isn't tainted). And I have new respect for Phil Donahue and less respect for CNN.
Interessant doku der det blir trukket linjer fra Vietnam til i dag. Et nyansert og kritisk blikk på den fredselskende krigshisseren USA. Også et syn på en ukritisk media med egne kjepphester.
Too much jumping between eras and not enough focused analysis on the wars in each period. This lack of analysis is partially to blame for the "preaching to the choir" feel-- if you are critical of the US government's foreign policy then this film will inflame those passions, if you are not, then this will feel like "liberal" propaganda.
Being personally in the former camp, I felt renewed shame and frustration while viewing. I especially liked when the film focused on specific propaganda techniques/phrases ("cut and run"), and raised specific examples of those who dared to dissent in he heat of the moment (Donahue, Morris, Lee...). However, conservatives are stereotyped as bloodthirsty, brainwashed fools, and I would have appreciated some intelligent comments from the "other side".
Its just like playing Civilization or Risk. Attack is the best defense and required to stay on top. Everything else is just a matter of how you state your case before attacking. Don't get it? Watch this one and you will!
think we americans aren't susceptible to government propaganda? think again.

We believe Fox News, MSNBC, CNN, etc. to give us the facts, but they have proven time and time again that they provide the information they want us to believe and are ultimately in the pocket for the Government, a government that should work for us, but more often than not works against us.
An informative look at how the US government has manipulated the media and its people in regards to its wars. Makes you question what you hear, who you hear it from and why you're hearing it.
Critic Reviews
Makes a strong case that when it comes to military action, the American public has been deceived by presidents from Lyndon Johnson on down the line to the current occupant of the White House.full review
While the film is intensely skeptical of the power elite, it has a refreshing faith in democracy.full review
