Anyone who likes Rand ought to see this movie... as for me, this movie just helped to justify why I don't like her.

I say this as an enthusiastic fan of the late Ms. Rand. She had an ideal and it was a very good one. She had the charm to make her portion of the world her own, even if some of her followers had trouble satisfying her (and that was their passion, too, so be it).
It was a bit difficult for me to be focused on the movie, as a big fan of Ayn Rand's novels & philosophy, particularly because I'm not clear on how accurate it is (I've been told the book on which it's based is a less than reliable source).

But as far as the movie goes- the casting was great, and the feel of the whole thing was really nice; I quite liked the directing and the music accompanied it all pretty well. But most of the movie was sex and all the boring relationship stuff involved with it.
Helen Mirren was pretty great, though.
Interesting biopic that gave more insight into the woman behind the books. The comparison to a "cult" following is explored. Thought provoking and gets one researching her on wikipedia. And I now know how to pronounce "Ayn" correctly!
Missed the mark for me. Not only did I find the script lacking in substantive content that really captured the essence of who Rand was a woman, as a writer, as a celebrity, but I could not get past the visual pairing of Mirren and Stoltz.

Julie Delpy did a fine job in her role, and was quite lovely--the camera loves her. Fonda presented a believable character, as well.

Rand fanatics may be miffed at the portrayal, which is far from idealizing, but still, I think, shows her as sympathetic and brilliant.
The best performance of Julie Delpy's I've seen to date. Story is awkwardly paced and paints Ayn in a crazy light. Which I guess was true but Helen Mirren didn't really bring ANY redeeming quality out.
Helen Mirren is just incredible as Ayn Rand. That being said, I thought the script was weak and the supporting cast left much to be desired. Still, I gave it 4 stars simply for Helen Mirren:)
Pedestrian movie. Stick with her books - which are life changing - and ignore her life (or at least this version of it)

A great fan, ,maybe not so much of a believer of her philosophy, I didn't know if I had the courage to watch her personal life. When I finally did, it made me realize just one thing, there are no heros and heroines, there is just love, honesty and happiness. No sort of human greatness or being a genius can substitute the essence of just being.
