Not for mainstream audiences or be prime Oscar bait, but a challenging, interesting watch.

However, there didn't seem to be much holding it together. It was like watching a bunch of short movies stuck together. The acting was good, but I didn't get any sense of Dylan, his music, or his times.
You HAVE to be a Dylanologist to your core to be able to really get into this one. If you think you're going to be seeing a Dylan biography, you're mistaken. I appreciate the vision that the filmmakers had, but honestly...it was just too long for me.
one of the more pedestrian things Todd Haynes has done, which is good for his filmography, not so good for whatever creamy jumble this was supposed to be
stroke of genious casting cate blanchett in the role of bob dylan....christian bale does an incredible job too...might be a little confusing for people who have no clue about bob dylan's work or life...
You know that cringe-worthy moment when a character says the titular line of a film? This is like that, except it's almost every line and from every Bob Dylan song you (used to) love.

Without the constant song references, this is an imaginative take on the biopic genre. Otherwise, I think you can get your Dylan fix elsewhere.
I didn't know enough about Bob Dylan to understand most of it. However, if one is a Dylan fan then one will surely enjoy it. Cate Blanchett is the most interesting ' Dylan ' to watch.
weird movie. Boring at times. I appreciate what they were trying to do but it was not my style.
Critic Reviews
The film is bracingly original; it's also mystifying, overlong and at times nearly incoherent. Floating at a distance from its audience, it creates its own smoky logic.full review
I'm Not There has epic length, but it's one bad idea after another.full review
What Haynes does is take away the reassuring segues that argue everything flows and makes sense, and to show what's really chaos under the skin of the film.full review
Among its many achievements, Todd Haynes's I'm Not There hurls a Molotov cocktail through the facade of the Hollywood biopic factory.full review
Cate Blanchett has delivered the most audacious, astounding and entertaining performance of the year by ANYONE, male or female.full review
one of the most inventive and joyous movies of the year.full review
It makes Yellow Submarine look like a miracle of sober narrative.full review
Todd Haynes has devised a Bob Dylan biopic that not even Dylan, for all his self-mythologizing, would have had the audacity to conceive.full review
