Bauby who comes out of a coma with only one good eye is soemthing special. It is sad story of the editor of Elle trying to make amends with family and past discretions while writing a memoir and allowing the hospital aides to gain hope through a rehabilitation process that was seeking a miracle.
Simply: Moving, emotionally and cinematographically./ Simplemente: Conmovedora, tanto desde el punto de vista de la fotografia como de la emocion.
Through examining a man's emotional awakening whilst suffering from paralysis, Schnabel crafted a stylish homage to the indomitable human spirit and the stirring power of imagination to transcend beyond the confines of physical boundaries.
Wonderful movie & very inspiring. I'm glad I chose this day, before New Year's to watch it. I look forward to reading his book!

The journey of a man who has "Locked In" syndrome after suffering a stroke seems mundane, but the tale of his hope, his desires and the people he meets gives you a first-class ticket into a place very rarely visited in a film: Thoughts. Cleverly directed and beautifully shot, the film is a must-see true story!
His power of expression is amazing!
sad story, but we can get a lot of things.
Stunningly amazing film that is a testament to life and the release that one finds inside the depths of their subconcious and imagination. If asked to describe this film in one word, I would have to say: Beautiful.

A very sad story but the film's not sentimental at all - it takes on a very sober and sort of cynical approach to a life story that's really dramatic.I think especially the beginning will stick with me - seeing through the eyes of a man waking up out of a coma realizing he has locked-in-syndrome. Heavy stuff...
One of the most remarkable films I've ever seen. It's incredibly inspiring and sports some amazing performances and cinematography

Here is the life force at its most insistent, lashing out against fate with stubborn resolve. And also with lust, hunger, humor and all of the other notes that this man once played so easily.full review
After I recovered from my initial horror, I was almost able to enjoy the experience of watching this discomfiting, entirely unique narrative.full review
The picture is so beautiful to look at that it's practically buoyant.full review
An inspiring tale of one man's triumph over adversity often devolves into a cinematic cliché, more earnest than truly moving. Thankfully, Diving Bell avoids those pitfalls.full review
With The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, Julian Schnabel demonstrates his own imaginative freedom in every frame and sequence.
Tough to watch? Sure. Worth it? Absolutely. Perhaps the most inspiring film in many years.full review
Tells a real person's life story so inventively you might forget how rotten recent biopics have been.full review
[Director Schnabel's] best film yet, a high-wire act of visual daring and unquenchable spirit.full review
The film is a masterpiece in which "locked-in" syndrome becomes the human condition.full review
