Classic Coen Brothers. Twisted, dememted fun. Great performances by all involved. Unique story and stylish direction. And did I pick up on a subtle "commentary" on Washington and our "illustrious former administration"? Maybe....
terrible. the only redeeming quality of this movie was brad pitts character and that wasnt wonderful either

The beginning credits give you the idea that this may be a Jason Bourne-like espionage film, and it would be, if not for the two biggest morons on the planet being thrown in the mix of things (Brad Pitt and Frances McDormand, both in hilarious performances).
I wanted to like this movie way more than I actually did. The acting is good and the dialogue has moments of clarity, but sadly it was too disjointed and weird to make me ever want to see it again.
Very clever indeed with a Lock Stock-esque merry go round story line. Great casting and John Malkovich rocked. Not sure about the ending mind - bit flat.
Very funny in a strange and weird kind of way. But still keeps you in it. Liked it!
I thought it was going to be better since it had good actors. But overall was an okay movie

Brad Pitt is to be seen to be believed as he plays totally against type as dumbkopf gym instructor. Frances McDormand plays her role slightly over the top as a Cosmetic surgery obsessed freak, Clooney plays a maniac with a penchant for workouts. John Malkovich plays an ex-CIA analyst who is surrounded by all these idiots. This was one rockin' flick which is highly recommended. Word of advice - Don't give a damn about what people think and laugh ur lungs out in the half-empty theatre, you'll enjoy the movie much much more...Thats what I did..:).

It just didn't zing like a typical Coen brothers movie should zing. The acting was disappointing for the most part when you consider that it was a who's who cast. The only bright spots that shined and brought some skills to the movie were John Malkovich (who was great) and Richard Jenkins (who excelled in a small supporting role). Brad Pitt was annoying, yes funny in some moments, but mostly annoying and Frances McDormand seemed out of place in the film. Clooney was alright and the same could be said for Tilda Swinton but that isn't good enough when this much talent is feeding off of one another. The writing was the only shining part of this movie. The dialogue was fun, interesting, stimulating and helped this movie flow along, which was desperately needed. I guess maybe I went in with too high of an expectation for this film (hard not to considering the amount of marketing they did for this film) but I am not fond of it. The Coen brothers really can knock them out of the park some times...this just isn't one of those. Rent it or watch it for free.

But wait. Didn't screwball farce go out 70 years ago? Around the time of Harry Cohn? Aren't we watching necromancy in action? Yes, yes and yes.full review
Burn After Reading could just as well have been called Forget After Seeing.full review
The brisk pace and sharp humor in Burn After Reading is a welcome relief after weeks of witless comedies and overblown action flicks.full review
Burn After Reading is neither an instant classic like No Country for Old Men nor a psychedelic playground like The Big Lebowski. But it is a Coen brothers kick in the pants.full review
It's funny, sometimes delightful, sometimes a little sad, with dialogue that sounds perfectly logical until you listen a little more carefully and realize all of these people are mad.full review
A goofy screwball romp that affords a gaggle of A-listers the chance to hambone around in antic style.full review
It would be no country for movie lovers without the Coens. They still manage to run unmuzzled while the rest of Hollywood runs scared.full review
Lesser artists would have followed a critical smash like No Country with another noir, courting audience favor through familiarity. But Burn After Reading, though shocking, is simply the flipside of the Coens' existential dread.full review
Burn After Reading is untranscendent, a little tired, the first Coen brothers picture on autopilot. In the words of the CIA superior, it's 'no biggie.'full review
