Just another reason to love these anthology movies. A particularly good entry into the genre, Peter Cushing is fantastic as always, David Warner gives a solid performance.

Four powerful stories by a master of the genre (the last is less effective, but still memorably executed), some wonderful visuals (the opening scene features a clever cut from a cemetery to the antique shop, and there's a wonderful shot of a seance centrally shot from a candle), and just enough humour not to unsettle the sinister foundation. I think I love this film a little, to be honest.

Four short stories held together by a mysterious antique dealer. The first two shorts are the best with the next two not as good but still watchable. This is one that certainly has a spooky atmosphere.

This was actually an interesting old school horror movie similar to the original Tales From The Crypt.
Some good stories that you can't always predict what will happen and some good violence.

(read more) Solid but mostly unspectacular Amicus anthology - I much prefer the atmospheric and darkly humorous "The House That Dripped Blood" but not quite as creaky as "Dr Terror's House of Horrors". There are some good instalments as with all of this series and notable performances by Donald Pleasance and his daughter Angela, Margaret Leighton as an eccentric medium (she steals the show), David Warner, Diana Dors (in her blowsier, mature period but you can still see the great beauty within) and Ian Ogilvy and Lesley Anne Down as an impossibly beautiful young couple with lovely hair. Peter Cushing is charming as the wily shopkeeper whose antique shop links the four vignettes. There are no great twists or shocks, but it's very well made with some unconventional establishing shots, and has a lot of charm.

Even though this wasn't one of the better horror anthologies I have seen, there were still enough hits to makes the misses all the more tolerable. The four tales are strung together with an antique shop and its creepy owner played by Peter Cushing. Any of the customers who cheat Cushing, end up victims of their purchases. The first story is about a man who buys a mirror. Unbeknown to him, hidden in the mirror is a ghost who longs for blood. This is one of the more grisly tales of the bunch with tons of blood shed and murder, it is also one of the best. The second tale is about a man who falls in love with another women, and with a voodoo doll, they murder his wife. Even though Donald Pleasence makes a young appearance, it still couldn't stop this story from being rather dull. The third tale has to do with a man who has a ghost living on his shoulder. It becomes violent and the man has to hire a psychic to have it removed. It was okay, if not a bit weird. Although props for the various actors involved as tey actually make you believe that the ghost exists. The final tale was probably the best of the lot, with a man buying a doorway that leads to a ghostly dimension. It was really creepy and scary at parts, and was probably worth the price of admission alone. The whole movie excels thanks to Amicus' high production values. There isn't one scene that reeks of B movie horror, and because of that this anthology holds it own. I would still recommend Amicus' Tales from the Crypt and Vault of Horror over this, but it was still worth watching.

Sometimes spooky, sometimes camp as a row of pink tents and sometimes just plain silly. Very entertaining. But a distinct lack of nudity mars proceedings.
