Anyone would have fall for Simmons, just watching her playing this catchy tune on the piano. Mitchum being mesmerized by this girl in the beginning is one of the best scene i have ever seen in a noir.

A rarity in the Robert Mitchum canon, as he plays something of a victim to (of all people) Jean Simmons. Excellently told story.

Talky talky talky. And it's interesting that no one in the movie ever really seemed to care about what was going on around them. There are much better noirs out there for your perusal.

Not the darkest noir I've ever seen, but it's not a lightweight. A great score and some graphic (moreso "from the time") deaths. Mitchum is Mitchum and Jean's eyes are piercing.

Mitchum glazed-over -- as usual -- while his love life rages. A seemingly standard noir that haunts you. Mona Freeman's performance as Mitchum's steady girlfriend is really interesting, very honest.

Fantastic Noir starring Mitchum as a man way over his head with a woman who will destroy him. Preminger keeps the story moving, and it gets hard to watch as Mitchum keeps getting buried. Great stuff with a fantastic ending.
