Top notch western. Young Ben fosters a great baddy. He's gonna be big that boy.

Said scenes did not ruin the film for me, though it has for others. Bale and Crowe both give one of their better performances here, and gelled nicely in their scenes. Ben Foster is surprisingly well cast and manages to come across as slightly unhinged, smart, and ultimately intimidating as the fiercely loyal wild dog of Wade's (Crowe) gang, who relentlessly pursues Wade's captors.
The highlights of the film were the cinematography (the film looked outright stunning in places on blu-ray), the authenticity of locations, costume and props, and most of all the dialogue between Crowe and Bale's charachters as they begin to lean more about each other and form a begrudged mutual respect.
And the action fan in me quite enjoyed the the change of pace in some of the less realistic and slightly over the top gunfights, they were damn entertaining!
A well-acted and surprisingly deep Western. In many way, this movie reminded me of my favorite film "Heat". The main story is a highly-polished but generic Western. What makes it interesting is how the two main characters interact and evolve.
I would never have picked this movie, but Courtney had it playing and I watched... I enjoyed the cat and mouse play. I think Christian Bale and Russell Crowe are exceptional actors that really fall into their characters. Very enjoyable
Some good performances can not make up for the fact that this is not the original and the writers are far to enamored with the villain to make this movie work
loved it...a great remake of an old western...both russell crowe and christian bale give awesome performances....and logan lerman really good in a role of a rebellious teenager....will probably see it again on DVD...

Ben Wade: I ain't gonna kill you. Not like this.

Ben Wade: You ever read the bible, Dan? I read it one time. I was eight years old. My daddy just got hisself killed over a shot of whiskey and my mama said "we're going back East to start over". So she gave me a bible, sat me down in the train station, told me to read it. She was gonna get our tickets. Well, I did what she said. I read that bible from cover to cover. It took me three days. She never came back.
Critic Reviews
New Zealand's Russell Crowe and Britain's Christian Bale, donning the hats and accents to play outlaw and escort with grizzled assurance.full review
The editing is tense and there's mucho splatter but the climax is unforgivable for reasons I can't spell out -- and owes something to a recent picture I can't name.full review
[Director] Mangold succeeds on his own terms, largely because the actors he's working with here, Russell Crowe and Christian Bale, so comfortably inhabit the movie, and the genre that cradles it.full review
James Mangold's 3:10 to Yuma restores the wounded heart of the Western and rescues it from the morass of pointless violence.full review
Big screen entertainment that rides right next to the great ones, a blazing action-packed film that reminds you what first-rate storytelling and filmmaking is all about.full review
Russell Crowe and Christian Bale are the main reasons to see 3:10 to Yuma, a serviceable addition to the current western revival.
One of the great pleasures of westerns is the showcase they offer for character actors, and 3:10 to Yuma has a pair of aces.full review
3:10 to Yuma rehashes western motifs -- those civilization/wilderness, essence of manhood themes -- but builds up to a poorly plotted, shoddily executed gun battle.full review
Maybe this redo didn't need so many bells and whistles, but Mangold brings it home.full review
