I stopped this movie in the middle. It terrified me. I don't want to see this one ever again. (I think the movie did its job).

The Akkad family had completely destroyed the entire Michael Myers franchise with just one movie, and it was a disaster. I have to be honest, I was NOT expecting Halloween to be remade. As soon as I heard that Zombie was gonna make it, I knew a couple of things. I knew that this film would be horribly gruesome, and I also knew that he would try to make the film as disturbing and vulgar as possible. He did do just that. "Halloween" seems like a good concept, and was interesting at times, but overall wasn't very good.
One thing that I liked about this movie, was the focus on Myers as a child. I thought that the way it was executed was a very interesting and believable concept. I felt that if their was a story of Michael as a child, then THIS would definitely be it. They did a good job on that. But why the hell does their NEED to be sex all over the place? I know it's a horror movie...and there are sex in all the Halloween films, but this movie just goes WAYYYYYY over the top. I mean it's like sex takes up half the movie in this film. I don't know...
I liked the childhood sequences, and I liked how we saw Michael escape the mental institution, but from here on, the film kind of goes downhill. It seems very obvious that the production team worked mostly on the child stuff, because we see during the adult scenes that everything feels particularly rushed and unpolished which is kind of annoying to see. I like the craftsmanship and video style that Zombie uses in this movie. He sort of makes the series feel much more grittier, and he does this in all of his films. But the movie just didn't feel right as it was progressing, which was really disappointing.
Overall, the acting in this film is atrocious. We have way too many over the top lines, and the only person who gives us a relatively good performance is Malcom McDowell. He's the veteran on the set, and he does the best job, but everyone else just seems immature. I liked Danielle Harris in "Halloween 4" and I believed that she was a very believable little girl in distress, but she's just annoying in this movie. Now that she's a teenager, her bad acting really sticks out.
I very much prefer Curtis over the girl who plays Laurie in this movie. In "Halloween (Original)" Lorie is focused on all of her work, and is still nice to the kids. In this film, Laurie is all about being mean, and hanging out with her friends, and that's not really her character, and I don't like how Zombie switched that around.
But what Zombie wanted this movie to be all about, was the terror. There are so many death's in this film. Michael just runs around killing random people. What we usually see in this film are a bunch of random bloody messes, but some of the kills were creative...mostly it's just repetitive though.
The style of Michael as an adult in this film is very interesting. In this movie, he is much more stronger, because he's taller and more built. In this movie we know his rage, so it seems that it drives him more and more, and makes Myers very powerful. I think this was an interesting way to portray Michael Myers, and I feel that that was well done.
I mean, overall this film was nothing really to write home about. It's better than a lot of the Halloween sequels that have been made, and though it might be a slightly creative re visioning, it doesn't touch the original at all. Ehh...
It does have many flaws, but Rob Zombie's gritty and stylish direction elevates the remake to an entertaining slasher.

If you don't like the horror genre and can't stand gruesome deaths then you have nothing to gain by watching this movie.

A very well done remake of a horror classic! Rob Zombie really pulled through after making that God awful HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES movie.
