The plot went nowhere, the acting was terrible and I gave it an extra star only for the great music (Bob Seger, Joe Cocker, .38 Special)
Awesome film that helps put some real life issues of today's education on display. Richard Mulligan's role is a stroke of brilliance and he plays it so well. It's probably my favorite Nolte film too.

Being a teacher I could sympathise with the characters lack of motivation, and the points the writers tried to stress, are as relevant today as they were 20 years ago.
Another great 80's flick about a High School in chaos with an amazing cast (with the except of Ralph Macchio). It's as touching as it is funny.

A smart and funny character study into the lives of teachers and administrators. It's downfall is in the performances. Nolte is awful, Hirsch looks uncomfortable, but Williams and Mulligan turn in great performances.

For the record, I am a high school teacher in a troubled NYC school.
For anyone who thinks teaching is easy, this is real life in some districts. The teachers and the kids.
I LOVE this movie. It shows people what being a teacher really means, and to stand up for what you believe in, regardless of beaurocratic BS. LOVE IT.
