Anyway, this made me laugh loudly more times than I thought I was going to, and Anna Farris' performance can only be described as adorable. And then throw in supporting performances by John Krasinski, John Cho, Jane Lynch, Danny Trejo, Adam Brody, Danny Masterson and you got yourself a.... tiny indie comedy with a great cast? I dunno.
I couldn't finish it... the only way it could be mildly amusing is if you were stoned yourself... maybe... though I still doubt it.
Loved this movie, even though it made pot users out to be lazy and dumb. Funny, good chill movie.
I found this movie rather uninteresting and really stupid. This is a complete over the top caricature, just like Laurel and Hardy. Too much wasted weed, too much wasted money, the plot just gets dumber and dumber, seriously, potheads aren't THAT dumb, at least not the ones I know. Acting and techniques are fine, it's just the whole story which is one giant FACEPALM
a waste of time.. definitely there for a few chuckles.. but too boring...

Of course Faris is funny, but the movie just isn't. Too much frantically running around, not enough actual jokes.
this 90 minute long kuleshov experiement is a bit sloppy in the technical department, but makes up for it with genuine laughs, a surprisingly strong performance from anna faris. its a fun time for all. i died laughing at the framed corn and lasagna. ... I would have to be baked out of my mind to get it,but other than that it was funny

Complete and utter nonsense, I just found Faris annoying, although she played a stoner quite convincingly. However, that was not enough to keep me even remotely interested in the movie, which was one I could have done without seeing.

I usually like Anna Faris but there is little she could do to save this script. Stoner comedies work best when the central stoner is likeable - in this she just comes across as a simpleton. They also work best when there are jokes, funny lines and funny set pieces, none of which appear here. Woeful. Anyone want to buy it off me?

(read more) Indie director Gregg Araki takes a break from his usually dark, edgy films (The Doomed Generation, Nowhere) to direct a full-fledged stoner comedy, though somehow, Araki still managed to instill some dark and edgy moments, though they can seem somewhat muddled in this rather silly departure for him. Smiley Face focuses on lazy stoner chick Jane (Anna Faris, whose actually quite funny in this) who gets stoned early in the morning and, like all stoners, gets the serious munchies and decides to eat her nerdy (but scary) roommate's (Danny Masterson) cupcakes, which are actually laced with a massive amount of pot as well. Soon, Jane becomes stoned beyond comprehension and plays the rest of the movie as though she were borderline retarded, as she attempts to run many errands, which consist of getting money for her dealer, doing an audition, baking more cupcakes, going to the dentist with a friend, etc, but only gradually making her situation worse and worse by the minute, leading to a very practical and realistic (though some would say anti-climatic) ending. A lot of the comedy within the film is hit or miss. Farris is actually pretty darn funny, and the movie is lucky enough to have other decent sized names in it, unfortunately some either offer a lot to the film (like The Office's John Krasinski), while others are somewhat wasted (like Jane Lynch or Danny Trejo). There's also some funny narration from Roscoe Lee Browne. Overall, the movie was a decent way to kill time. Not bad.
