And I couldn't understand anything because those parts didn't have subtitles. Don't they know that those parts are important to the story? You would think they would subtitle the songs too. That really got annoying and I missed half the storytelling because of it. It mostly gets less stars because of that fact. It was a pretty large budget Bollywood movie and you could tell.
I wanna be just like Guru Bhai! this movie wonderful, its simply inspiring.

As much as I loved Umrao's lusciousness and obstentosity, I didn't appreciate Abhishek, he was just terrible and we all know it. However we got a new tv, and wanted to try a visually-strong Indian film in our big HDTV, so I picked Guru. The movie made justice to the tv and viceversa, colors, photography and images are intensely rich, just like I like them :). The story though is a bit too heroic, with a hint of populism and patriotism, which is always welcomed. The music is just outstanding! I already had Barso Re and Tere Bina, but seeing them performed added a whole new dimension to them; for sure the music is a treasure. I also liked this Madhavan dude, muy guapo! Now, I would have appreciated a way better choreography, the songs and the production deserved more in this aspect; it was a waste to see those gorgeous songs being danced with such lameness, this Abhishek dude is so tall and clumpsy!and Aishwarya could have done so much better! I really felt the dances sucked. But overall, I really enjoyed the Bolly-journey, I laughed, cried, danced and felt like kissing Madhavan ;).
Excellent movie, a true story (dramatized of course) of India's richest man. Journey from a simple boy filing gas in cars for living to forming a company that has propelled his family to top ten richest people on earth.
Interestingly enough, two actors that I don't like did well in this movie. Good story.
good stuff!! abhishek gives a fantastic performance and the film is basically based on the life story of the great dhirubhai ambani (the wiki version). indian films continue to amaze me!
The story line is intriguing and the music is amazing. The editing and directing however...not so much. It was jumpy and had lame sound editing for most of the "intense" scenes. Overall a great, and EXTREMELY long movie. Oh, and Vidya Balan is hot.
