A film about love, pleasure, sorrow and happiness.....told in a multi layered (pulp fiction style) way that hits the spot. Great first time effort from debut director Jieho Lee!!
Now, this isn't a perfect movie but one that is intelligent enough to generate meaningful discussion. Sarah was fantastic. Best performance since Buffy by far.

Maybe butterfly effect really does exist, here one's go will affect the things / people you know or not. I'm quite in this movie. Last but not least, no matter how hard Andy Garcia acts, he still reminds me of his performance in Godfather III.
The Air I Breathe is very interesting and great movie. It's very different from others. There are four different persons and their paths are inextricably linked to each other, it makes this movie very enjoyable and awesome.
really like the idea of the story,it's very good indeed, but still there's something a bit weak and poorly built in this movie.

Four stories are crossed and the outcome has different directions. A businessman (Forest Whitaker) has lost the meaning of his life and he literally bets it on a fixed racehorse. A gangster (Brendan Fraser) has the gift of seeing the future, but one day that suddenly changes. A popstar (Sarah Michelle Gellar finds herself in the hands of a brutal crime boss, Fingers (Andy Garcia), and her career becomes something she hardly expected. And a doctor (Kevin Bacon) needs to save the love of his life before she dies from a snakebite.
Hmmm... so yet another dramatic take on a few life stories crossing paths. We have seen a few on the screens since "Short Cuts" and some of them have been really good, like "Crash" and "Magnolia". "The Air I Breathe" is not bad, but I think it is a bit messy in terms of how the stories intersect. Some performances are better (Garcia, Whitaker, Bacon) than other (Gellar, Fraser) and that creates a bit of an unbalance as well in the movie. A three in the middle from me.
Unfortunately story and cast failed to fulfill my expectations. Although I can hardly describe it, story and characters seem to lack drive and motivation - some characters and scenes are plainly unnecessary.

Hardly any character development (all the characters end up being what they started off as), no underlying theme to keep me guessing what or where the movie was heading for, and worst of all the over the top melodrama a) Trista's father getting hit my the car. b) Pleasure's friend dying from a broken glass. c) Trista saved from the fall by Love. d) the over acting by Love himself... the list goes on. And on top why would Trista need to hide her name ? is it because it would be easy for her to escape from fingers?
i'm surprised by how much i liked this, and its not just beacuse i love smg, who CAN act by the way. something about this film felt different, not the storyline or its ability to enthrall or its eventual crossroads, but ..... i don't know. it made me... Each story has its moments, but Air lacks an overarching vision.full review
Brendan Fraser is Pleasure, Sarah Michelle Gellar is Sorrow, Kevin Bacon is Love, Forest Whitaker is Happiness, and the director is Pretension.full review
A breathtakingly bad Altman rip-off that seems like a wholly unintentional parody of multi-narrative films.full review
