The first major starring role for Bogey and he doesnt disappoint - but the story and script is all a little simple, leaving a forced moral message at the end which over-eggs it somewhat!

The overly preachy finale nearly ruins an otherwise compelling film. This was Bogie's first top-billed role and he, of course, is excellent.

Interesting but contrived melodrama that might have worked better if had been about the actual Ku Klux Klan.

I've been waiting a long time to see this one on DVD and I wasn't disappointed. Bogie is Bogie here in his first real staring role. Didn't like the Hollywood ending though. Maybe it was based on the real thing, but still seemed tacked on to me.

Tight drama confronting racism in a union disguise. Bogart nails the part, charming you at the start and falling into the total paranoia. Still packs a hell of a punch.

This movie is fantastic! You can see its influence over Scorsese and mayhaps a bit rubbed off on Fincher. A great Boggart performance and full of classic moments. A grittier Gentleman's Agreement.
