Robinson, who helped capture the killers, but lost his wife in the process. Robinson was a Nassau County detective, whose work was everything to him, to the exclusion of his family during the 1940s and 50s. As he worked long hours on this infamous case, his wife began a downward spiral which ultimately would take her life.

eipä tainnu jäähä mithän mieleen tästä leffasta:/ oli kyllä niin tusinatavaraa...
Hayek and Leto are pretty good, but overall not enough tension for a great detective thriller.
How did I miss this movie! Anyhow... it was excellent. Real life murder sprees are always interesting for a movie plot. LOL
I cant believe this film escaped my attention for nearly 4 years.
When I first seen Jared Leto I thought, I've sure I've seen him on a music video a few times now to only realise him and his brother are in a band haha.

This movie is very well written about the story of Det. Robinson (Travolta) who obsession with his job ultimately leads to tragic loss and more so over the chase of two chilling killer's named Martha Beck (Hayek) and Raymond Martinez (Leto). The two killers are portrayed as basically scammers who get into folk's lives (we're led to believe female victims anyway) and rob them before obviously putting them to the sword. Not far of the Bonnie & Clyde crime resume.
Det. Hildebrandt (Gandolfini, my reason for getting this film to begin with) is Robinson's friend and long time partner in the NY homicide department and along with Det. Reilly (Caan) who is the new boy in the department who tries his seniors patience and sense of humour to the limit also has a good part in the film.
My choice of performance of the movie is Salma Halek who plays the psychotic killer Martha Beck to an absolute tee. One part in the movie which was touched on by another reviewer when she displays how much she has got into Martinez's head by forcing him to choose between her or another.
All in all - I never took my eyes of the film for its entirety and thats when I know I can highly rate a film.
The power of some horrific events are undermined by some ripe dialogue and by-the-numbers subplots. There is a good story in here, but it's not showcased as it could have been.

While watching the movie, it wasn't until late into it I recognised details telling me that I've seen this one before, though obviously very little stayed with me from that time. Actually the only thing grabbing me in this movie was the ending.
John Travolta plays a cop driven by one thing only; coming to terms with his wife's suicide - and Travolta does it convincingly. James Gandolfini, on the other hand, was less believable. He looked more like a bear in an ill-fitting suit. And was Salma Hayek there for her looks only? Because it wasn't for her acting abilities.
The scenery did convey that the whole thing played out during the 40's; the cars, the clothes and the coiffures. I couldn't detect any larger mistakes with this picture. There's just one thing I'm not sure about. In one scene there's an obvious product placement: A pack of Lucky Strikes turned so there wouldn't be any shadow of doubt about the brand. My conundrum concerns the Lucky Strike logo; when did they change the colour of the centre circle from green to red?

I like Salma performance that was one crazy lady! The rest of the movie was just ok.
