The cast match the iconic characters of Asterix and Obelix to a tee. The sets reflect the artwork with the garish cartoonish colouring of ancient times. Where the movie falters is with the English adaptation of the french dialouge. The french humour of the origional comics doesn't come through without a strong stench of English slapstick (not good English slapstick either) that has been cobbled together to try and suit the scenes of the movie. Ah well, a visual treat anyways.

Really well made movie. Perfect characters. The bad part with this movie for me is that it was dubbed in swedish. But i think this movie is way better in its original language.

Que dire ? Que Claude Zidi est nul ? On le savait deja... Mais il l'est encore plus depuis qu'il a decouvert qu'on peut dedoubler un personnage par ordinateur...

Totally worth it...Finally a real life cartoon based movie that stands out for the actual story (meaning avoiding unnecessary toilet humour, stupid cliches, pop culture ---> Cheeck Scooby Doo Movies for further Info) I think that the actors that played both Asterix and Obelix did an amazing job!!! (Especially Obelix :D)..When it come sto Roberto Benigni, I thought at the beginning (what a dumb idea...hating the italian accent so bad) ...but after a while, lol he was indeed pretty funny hehehe
I ave to watch this again tho, watched it without English subs so it was kinda heavy to understand all teh French, but Im considering not using subtitles so it wont spoil the comedy of the French dialogs lol

I've only seen the movie in its original language so I don't know how the subs are doing but hopefully not a lot is lost in translation.

The version I saw didn't have English subtitles, but I could still follow the story, and it made as much sense as any other Asterix story. :)

This is so much fun. I love the Depardieu, Clavier and Benigni trio and its just pleasure to watch them in movie adaptation of the best comic book ever made!!

The third star is just for Depardieu, the rest is pretty difficult to watch if you're not a 10 year old. (on TF1 Jan 08 with Fiona G)
