At a time when most young women of her class aimed only to make a good marriage, Beatrix became an iconic figure, swimming quietly, but with great fortitude, against the tide. She created a series of books and characters that are as beloved today as they were a hundred years ago, and since their publication they have never been out of print. She was also a distinguished painter and--had she been a man--her botanical drawings would have been snapped up by the Royal Horticultural Society at Kew Gardens. In addition, by the time she died in 1943, Beatrix Potter had purchased vast swathes of the Lake District that she left to the then fledgling British conservation trust, the National Trust. That so much of this glorious countryside that inspired her, remains as it was in Beatrix Potter's day for others to enjoy, is her bequest to the nation.

Efter denna är jag mer sugen än någonsin att semestra på den engelska landsbygden!

Miss Potter was a bit too pushy at times and disrespectful to her parents, though I can understand her frustration. There was some feministic aspect, but I was glad that Beatrix wanted to get married, still. (And I don't see anything wrong with writing and painting, it's just that I believe it can be taken to extremes.) All in all a pretty good movie.

I found it a little twee at first, the implication that Beatrix be squeamish compared to her brother when it's reasonably well-known she dissected animals - quite the best way to draw them very well then!
The pictues becoming animated was fun, but I wonder if another director or different script could've done more with that than have Miss Potter talking to them as if not quite balanced!
I found Miss Zelwegger a bit irritating to start as if being a v proper, practised Englishwoman rather than a person, but this may have been deliberate as the performance warmed to me as she did in the story. The parents were vey good (Barbara Flyn and Bill Paterson) and yes, of course there was beautiful scenery to behold and lovely sets.
Charming in many ways with a fine cast. Now, back to that silliest of ducks and other books, chikldren all!
Beautiful though tragic story of Beatrix Potter. Amazingly well played and directed.
Pretty inspiring movie of a confident, passionate woman, who tries to find a place in life. I like the fact that's a true story, too.
Furchtbar kitschig mit viel Herzschmerz und Schmachten garniert...

beautiful, sweet and charming movie, with a great Renee Zellweger and Ewan McGregor
Loved it. I love movies based on true stories, so this was bound to be a winner anyway. It was sad, but there was a happy ending, which in my opinion, makes a movie great.
Achei o filme delicado, sensivel, permeado pela magia que as historias infantis trazem. Realmente lembra muito 'Em busca da Terra do Nunca'.
Loved learning more about Potter, felt like sketching & painting when it was done! Beautifully filmed!
Critic Reviews
The film offers scant insight into the forces that inspired Potter's phenomenally successful career.full review
It will certainly play well with older audiences and the kind of adolescent girls who draw faces in their O's.full review
This attractive, superficial stab at biography, with Renée Zellweger in the title role, is more concerned with a lonely woman's quest for acceptance and love than with an author's worldly achievements.full review
It's a soft-focus picture of a woman who, surely, had a few more hard edges, but it's a thoroughly pleasant escape to another world.full review
Was Potter really the way Renée Zellweger plays her here? Let's hope so. Dreamy, exquisitely sensitive and yet oddly focused, it's a beautiful characterization.full review
It is a lovely film for the holiday season, as well as afterward, and is reminiscent of Finding Neverland, without the darker undercurrents. Zellweger does a fine job of fleshing out the plucky character despite the occasional simper.full review
The movie pulls off a neat trick, using animation to show how, when Potter is alone with her animal creations, they leap around on the page or wink at her with unapologetic cheekiness. They're alive, and they're in charge.full review
