A noir-ish crime drama based on the Black Dahlia case. Duvall and Deniro are as good as you'd expect. Solid stuff, but not quite outstanding especially since better films have been made about the period.

The story is about the brutal and rather interesting murder of a young woman whose body was badly mutilated and cut up into two pieces which famously become knowing as the Black Dahlia case (also see Black Dahlia, a great modern version of the case) this film noir style classic is such an underrated film in my book and reminds me of Roman Polanski's Chinatown.
A must see strongly recommend crime movie!!!

This film seems like its going to be another De Niro classic. The acting is quality, the story is interesting. But the scriptwriter couldnt think of an ending.

A very melancholic and desolate film, as both men are more and more entangled in the mistery that slowly unfolds, provoking clashes between them. Great cast, great athmosphere. Must see.

Didn't really connect with me....slow and boring. Solid cast with DeNiro, Duvall and Durning but it was damn dull.

Rather boring story set around the church and sibling relationships. The acting is ok but the plot and script are weak.

Robert Duvall is Marlon Brandos favourite actor. Bob and Bob play brothers. Bob is a detective and Bob is priest. Masters of acting art.

This is a Black Dahlia story, and one of the better versions, as it is strong on character and the period detail is enjoyable. Lots of Catholic stuff and the dialogue is subtle, sometimes to a fault. Worth a look see.

It's a competent crime thriller/mystery/ slow ass character study, but little more than that from what I saw. There are worse ways to kill two hours, but then again, there are better ways, too. I've almost forgotten it and I just watched it yesterday.
