Notwithstanding, I'm a sucker for movies in old time settings, and I was curious to see how Mrs. Gump would pull it off in an other movie. Conclusion: if you've got to do a book report on this novel, don't watch the movie.

Very sad movie about life of an orphaned woman but finally finds happiness in the end. She suffers much hardship and pain of soul.

Hated this adaptation. Felt no sympathy for any of the characters. There is a much better version out there with Alex Kingston.

Tragic and triumphant... Robin Wright Penn is wonderful in this fabulous drama worth seeing more than once!

A surprisingly good movie. Great period detail, costumes, and accuracy. The script is well-conceived out of Defoe's rambling original. Robin Wright, Morgan Freeman, and Stockard Channing all give great performances.
