Evan leaves Buffalo behind and shepherds his family to suburban northern Virginia. Once there, his life gets turned upside-down when God appears and mysteriously commands him to build an ark. But his befuddled family just can't decide whether Evan is having an extraordinary mid-life crisis or is truly onto something of Biblical proportions.

First one was great. this was depending solely on flashy CGI and hoping we would all be glamoured by Steve Carell. NO GO.
It was very very bland movie that took the original and slammed it to the ground.
Very funny, and it has a good message too. I think it got bad reviews from critics because it was so blatantly religious, whereas Bruce Almighty poked fun at religion more. A great family movie.
it's just differebt ... the story makes no sense but Steve Carrell is funny ,,,
Farfetched, ridiculous and over-complex... just the way I love my comedies. lol
Critic Reviews
Evan Almighty in which Steve Carell is commanded by God (Morgan Freeman) to build an ark, is a movie far less interesting than its premise.
Though far from a disaster of Biblical proportions, Evan Almighty is a mild, sporadically funny comedy in an oversized sentimental frame.full review
This bright family comedy is a great time at the movies for everyone, thanks in large part to the brilliant Steve Carell.full review
The sum effect is mild yet strange, lacking both the zing of smart comedy and the cohesion of sensible plotting.full review
For a movie that's supposed to be about reconnecting with God and ourselves, and cherishing the Earth we live on, Evan Almighty is a surprisingly dispassionate picture.full review
Dressing thy star in vestments of outrageous design and a wig maketh not a joke.full review
The shamelessly juvenile, pseudo-religious, mock-sincere Evan Almighty is the most expensive Hollywood comedy ever made. Problem? It's not that funny.full review
Evan Almighty runs out of comic invention early, and the filmmakers fall back on what real politicians do when they exhaust their small stash of ideas: brainless piety.full review
