After watching him in that distasteful the Zohan movie, I swore I would never watch any of his films again. It is almost ridiculous to see Adam Sandler and the words 9/11 in a same sentence. I mean his biggest success is usually when he is playing an idiot. But you ve got to admire the guy for taking a role outside his comic comfort zone. Here he is as a man coping with loss of his family in the wake of 9/11. Don Cheadle is one of the finest actors, the person who gave the most credible performance here and made this movie quite likable for me

Easily Sandler's best work. If only he would act this well in his other films. This is a great, great film that focuses on not only the transformation of a fallen man, but one who seems to be doing just fine as well. I recommend to anyone. Besides the not-so-frequent use of the F word, this film should have been PG-13. F words could have easily been avoided and seemed unnecessary and an obstruction in Cheadle and Sandler's dialogue.
It was Adam Sandler playing himself in a serious role? Yes, yes it was.Its disturbing to think though that this is what post-traumatic stress could look like. A world full of Adam Sandlers. Yes, yes it was.Its disturbing to think though that this is what post-traumatic stress could look like. A world full of Adam Sandlers. The story/side stories etc. is really great though and I love the Johnson family with Pinkett Smith and Cheadle as parents. It didn't pull enough on the emotional chords but it was sweetly touching enough.
I've often said that a movie tackling the events of September 11th is something Americans aren't ready for, but this movie does a better job of it than the rest, its moving and disturbing.

The cast is incredibly strong; even the minor characters have great parts. I usually do not watch Adam Sandler's more dramatic films, but this one proves that he can really put on an impressive performance. I felt the ending was a tad anti-climatic, but I think this was actually a good thing; it shows that even with the support of friends, pain still takes time to heal. Strongly recommend it.
An interesting side to 9/11, well done by Sandler and Cheadle. Also liked seeing Ryan from The Office and Donald Sutherland appearances!
Incredible story about a man trying to get his life back. Excellent storytelling with great performances by Cheadle and Sandler. It truly is amazing.
Critic Reviews
This is a film you must see, a profound and deeply affecting experience that will stay with you long after its over.full review
The film is slick when it needs to be raw, tidy when it needs to sprawl, and amorphous when it needs to focus.full review
This is not a simple, uplifting tale. It's never clear whether Charlie will fully recover, and that sense of realism is the film's strength.full review
Reign Over Me uses the rhythms and moods of comedy to explore, and also to contain, overpowering feelings of loss.
Reign Over Me is a very gentle picture, intended to soothe us, not to jolt or shock us. But it's so gentle that it lacks any discernible energy.full review
There's no quick label for the kind of assured, humane films that writer-director Mike Binder makes.full review
As Charlie Fineman, a Manhattan dentist who lost his wife and two children when their jet crashed into the World Trade Center on 9/11, Sandler is stuck in a movie that won't come unstuck.full review
Tackles issues of tragic loss, survivor's guilt, and psychological defense mechanisms with disarming sincerity.full review
Reign Over Me closes with, at best, a cautious hope, leaving us more anxious than when we went in, and throughout the film there is a stunned and bewildered air hanging over the city, like a heavy smog.full review
