I really thought this would be better than it was. It was pretty bad unfortunately.
jim carrey, why do you do anything but serious films? this and eternal make me love you, but all your other shit makes me question why i do. this was a good one, very creepy and totally draws you into the conspiracy!
the plot twist was obvious for me, but i liked the flashes. Jim Carrey is a great actor, and he's smokin' hot in that black suit. :)
3.5/5
One of the best thrillers I have ever seen. The part where the blonde went SPLAT I actually jumped, and that aint easy to do. Coz i am the "mountain crumbles infront of me i still stand still" kinda person. But anyway, very scary at the end ... (read more) 3.5/5

Carrey was his usual possessed self, no one else could play this role any better.
Ending was... not gonna give it away, like I usually do, out of pure repsect for this excellent film.
On a side note, i had no clue the hot lady was acutally played by Madsen who played the wife. WTF. I was sooo deceived. Until I wikied her. Midway through the film.
an extraordinary role for cable guy - must admit he's one helluva good actor. interesting story, should be seen.
While it is a terrible movie, it is pretty entertaining. Jim Carrey and Virginia Madsen did a very good job actually. It's really the obnoxious story that makes it such a ridiculous film. Jim Carrey delivers a performance he's never done before, and it's not terrible.
This is an altogether toe crunching stupid movie. I reckon it's not the worst movie I've ever seen, but it sure is a frustrating experience.
Critic Reviews
The author's obsession with the number 23 becomes Walter's, and we're treated to a lot of examples of numbers that add up to 23, which means a lot of scenes in which people say things like, 'What's 14 plus 9? 23!' and look haunted.full review
Carrey owns this movie. He's in virtually every scene, and there's no taking one's eyes from him.full review
Carrey skillfully leads us on a twisted trek with hair-raising jolts.full review
The director, Joel Schumacher, works up a juicy, lurid atmosphere, but the picture feels cramped and airless. You wait for it to really take off, but it never seems able to find its way out of all the artfully claustrophobic rooms and corridors.full review
There's little in this first script by Fernley Phillips but bloodless notions -- nothing that might qualify, by the light of day, as entertainment.full review
Here's our homage to the film's tortured permutations of the numerals 2 and 3: 3 minus 2 equals 1. And there is only one reason to see this movie: You have absolutely nothing better to do.full review
Let's cut to the chase: Movies don't get much more dunderheaded than Joel Schumacher's semi-psychological thriller The Number 23.full review
There's a mess of things wrong with this suspense thriller. Start with the fact that it's neither suspenseful nor thrilling.full review
Shot by computer-enhanced shot, The Number 23 is impressive, but those shots don't come from anywhere or build on one another.full review
