I hate chick flicks, and this is no exception. However, I somehow will sit there and watch this movie time and time again... I'm getting soft in my age.
Somehow, I think Jack Black doesn't fit in this role.
Everything else is nice and heartwarming. :)
I really enjoyed this Christmas chick flick. A quality rom-com with four excellent leads. My only quibble is that the Iris/Miles story is under explored compared to Amanda/Graham tale. None the less the film has lots to love. I laughed, I even cried ... (read more) I really enjoyed this Christmas chick flick. A quality rom-com with four excellent leads. This is the first film I've seen where I actually liked Jude Law.

Other than that, pretty average.
I was disappointed with the ending. There were lots of questions that were still unresolved.
Starts out ok, then just goes on and on and on and onnn. The performers are quite good, but the story is really meandering. Especially the one in England. The performers are quite good, but the story is really meandering. Especially the one in England. I much prefered to Kate Winslet's story, it was more interesting. Also, its a romantic comedy, well I didnt see much comedy, its depressing to the most part. I should go to trade descriptions with this. And not even Mr Zimmer's romantic music can help me feel like going back to this holiday (my God thats a poor line).
Cheesy, predictable, and some lame gimmicks, but still somehow better than average romcom.
This festive rom-com is all too perfectly convenient in that ever so conveniently perfect chick flick kind of way. Nice performances, though plus it is a good snuggles movie for couples and worth a watch to enjoy the perfectly perfect Kate Winslet.

We can all figure out where this thing is going but getting there is the prime attraction here.full review
...The story goes on at untoward length.full review
Winslet, who's never done a Hollywood romantic comedy before, turns out to be a natural, blushing prettily and smiling so broadly the camera seems ready to embrace her.full review
The Holiday has the materialist airhead brightness of a Christmas department store window, with handsomely outfitted mannequins arranged around an artificial fire. It's glamorous and sentimental but it doesn't touch the heart.full review
Meyers' movies would be far less offensive if they were simply shiny, shallow entertainments. But they always read like pronouncements, monitor readings of how 'real' women think and feel.full review
If you're willing to embrace a bit of corniness for the sake of some incisive humor, a few poignant moments and enjoyable scenarios, make time for The Holiday.full review
To list all the contrivances strewn throughout The Holiday would require more words than are warranted by Nancy Meyers's latest batch of cinematic maple syrup.full review
