Im sorry but to me this was a kick ass movie. I didnt watch transformers when I was young. But wow if I could go back i would. Plus Shia Labeouf is just damn yummy!

(read more) As a child of the late eighties and early nineites I wasn't sure whether Hollywood was going to crap all over the fond memories I had of this cartoon. This was a dark cartoon that fired the imagination and made me wish that our car (at the time a red Micra) was a lot more exciting than it appeared to be in reality. This film is good, it is entertaining, and though starts slowly quickly fights its way to a fiery finish. Shia LeBouef I wanted to hate, simply because I have no idea how to spell his name but it was obvious from the outset that he is going to become a force to be reckoned with years from now. Initial hesitations about the early part of the film faded away once the Autobots and the Decepticons arrived - and Megan Fox gave me something pretty to look at whilst we were waiting. The film never let itself become shmultzy and still retained that bleakness of war the cartoons always had. I utterly enjoyed it but perhaps my favourite characters were the very human parents of Sam Witwicky, played brilliantly and with utter sincerity. This isn't going to be a life changing film - there was plenty wrong; the transformers all looked the same and I had no idea who was on whose side for most of it BUT the effects were spectacular, the story compelling and they didn't crap on my childhood - so a definite plus there. The Transformers cartoon was a lousy excuse to promote some toys, the show was awful and after watching the Transformers live action film the tables have turned my opinions on the Hasbro franchise.

With a foray of great good guys and bad guys like Optimus Prime and Megatron beating the absolute shit out of each other one of the movie's strong points are the action where 100 tonnes of metal and fuel fight in a collsosal battle, the CGI and special effects used are just simply amazing. Another strong point is th epacing of the film where it starts off slowly introducing each character and that each action scene is balanced out by human scenes that contain alot of great witty humour. all in all Transformers is a great action movie that pushes the boundaries of how CGI will be used in future films.

I challenge you to name another movie about an alien robot come to save the world while disguised as a yellow Camaro. Isn't it just an intergalactic Herbie the Love Bug?

Too bad the filmmakers don't let these bots take over the spectacle.

It's the toys 'r us in this awesome sci-fi blockbuster. It's bound to produce several inferior sequels but the pure joy of discovery from this kick-ass original is not-to-be-missed.

It's a gearhead's dream come true, with cool robots, hot girls, big explosions and broad jokes.

In this tricked-out retake on the much-loved contraptions, director Michael Bay brings his usual chest-thumping, combustive bombast, but he also brings some clever pacing and a genuinely snappy wit. It is not all stupid and not all loud.
