A bad adaptation of the novel. Avoided some important incidents. The best so far is the one of Gerard Depardieu.

This is the forth adaptation I have seen and so far the French adaptations with Gérard Depardieu (1998) and Jean Marais (1955) are far more superior than the American ones, although this one featured Louis Jourdan and Donald Pleasence.

Clearly one of the less successful versions of this story, yet more than a nice way to spend a lazy afternoon.

Although the more recent movie version is superior, this adaptation is pretty good as a treasure from the good old days, where they used to read the book before they filmed it. Chamberlain acts as he always does, without emotion but with style.
