After a particularly violent storm, Ursula and Janet Widington awake to find young man Andrea half-drowned and badly injured on the beach. They slowly discover that he is a Polish Jew with a gift for music as an accomplished violinist, hoping to find his way to America. But the village isn't used to visitors and everyone, with the exception of the sisters, is full of suspicions, especially when Andrea develops a friendship with a beautiful Russian woman vacationing nearby. Eventually, the two must make a choice between trying to keep their new charge for themselves or setting him free in the world.

Quaint Tale. How The Other Half Live Made An Interesting Watch. I Think The Whole Attitude Of "Mr Right" Just Washing Up On A Beach Somewhere Is More Fantasy Than Reality But I Saw The Good In The Story.
Judi Dench and Maggie Smith are delightful as the ultimate late bloomers!

I have mixed feelings about this movie... I don't think it sucks, but I don't think it's great either... It's like something was missing.., in order to make it a truly memorable story...

It's a nice very typical British movie which will probably appeal more to women than men. Judi Dench's performance is exceptional as is The young actor Daniel Bruhl, I was attracted to this movie after seeing his preformance in "Goodbye Lenin!" I as also intrigued by the character of Olga As I wasn't 100% sure what her intentions were. But it all works out well as it should do :)
I think both Maggie Smith & Judi Dench are magnificent actresses but this movie blows! While they're both terrific, the movie is slow and it didn't capture me one bit. Two stars: one for Dame Judi, the other for Dame Maggie.

A wistful little thing about regret, jealousy and love.full review
Dance has had the great good fortune to cast two legendary British actresses, and thus Ladies in Lavender gets elevated to the rare-treat category.full review
Not even the skills of Dames Smith and Judi Dench can make this tea strong enough to swallow.full review
Ladies in Lavender assembles those two great Dames, Judi Dench and Maggie Smith, and sends them off to play sisters sharing a cozy little cottage on the Cornwall coast. That is an inspiration. What they do there is a disappointment.full review
It's a conventional picture, but it feels so deeply alive that it's practically a novelty.full review
