Not funny, not romantic. Fail as a romantic-comedy. In fact, this movie just depressed me. Don't watch.

Nelson) is truly caring for their different kids; the picture perfect Evertt (Dermot Mulroney), the slacker Ben (Luke Wilson), the deaf and gay Thad (Ty Giordano), the pregnant Susannah (Elizabeth Reaser) and the outspoken Amy (Rachel McAdams). Evertt is bringing his fiance Meredith Morton (Sarah Jessica Parker) this Christmas to introduce her to the family and as well ask Sybil for her mothers wedding ring to be able to propose to Meredith. Unfortunately, Meredith is uptight, self-conscious and lacks self-esteem, which is quite obvious the minute she enters the residence of the Stone family. This creates a slightly chaotic and tension filled situation within the family. Meredith is quickly overwhelmed by the hostile reception, and begs her sister Julie (Claire Danes) to join her for emotional support, which triggers further complications.
It is time to catch up on old Christmas movies I have not seen before. "The Family Stone" is a comedy/drama with more touches on the dramatic side I would say. Family matters, love matters and life matters is the essential matters and we get to see a family struggling with all these things in a convincing way. Until the end that is.... What is not so exciting is that "The Family Stone" goes from being pretty alright to being total slush puppie with the sugarcoated puky end. And I am pretty tired of Sarah Jessica Parker and her antics. I am sorry, but that is how I feel. "The Family Stone" has its moments, but it is not a Christmas re-seer.
Diane Keaton is fantastic, as is Luke Wilson. Too bad a horse named Sarah Jessica Parker had to poke its head into shots.
Glad not my family - OMG - they are the atypical cringe factor plus - but so likeable - SJP is a nightmare as angsty girlfriend. We've all met her at some point!
Had its moments, but I felt it was a little to All in The Family...left wing version
One of my all time favourite films, inspite of the rancid Sarah Jessica Parker.

Some will find it touching, some will be too weary of the plot contrivances and the smug Stone family to care.full review
A feel-bad holiday film about a repellent family, with a milquetoast dad and a smug, devious harpy of a mom.full review
There are cringe-worthy passages and an overly sentimental structure (everyone pairs up so very tidily), but the performances are delightful, and the picture comes together.full review
This is a family, and a movie, where everyone talks at once -- and more often than you'd think, its characters actually come up with something worth saying.full review
The Family Stone sorts out its characters admirably, depends on typecasting to help establish its characters more quickly, and finds a winding path between happy and sad secrets.full review
Writer-director Thomas Bezucha lays it on thick, but he knows the mad-dog anarchy of family life and gives the laughs a sharp comic edge.full review
