This Chaplin feature is nothing less than brilliant filmmaking. I found it more enjoying than "Modern Times" or even "City Lights."

This film includes some very lazy writing. When the Tramp is chased by the cop when he first enters, the circus audience goes NUTS! But he's not even doing anything very funny. Lloyd or Keaton would have given their characters gags and a reason for the audience to laugh. The addition of Chaplin singing the opening song during the titles does NOT make the film better.

not Chaplin's 'deepest' movie, but certainly one of his most entertaining - it's about the movie's best clown being put into an awkward position (and quoting Homer Simpson here): Be More Funny!
