Meanwhile, every sect in China seems to want to kill them both, and everyone's trying to find a legendary trove of gold. As is common with Hong Kong historical epics, the plot of The Master Swordsman is maddeningly convoluted--yet this doesn't keep this kung fu soap opera from plunging forward, leaping from one spectacular fight to another. At over three hours, that's a lot of action, and the sexy cast plays it for all the overwrought passion and steely-eyed cool you could ask for.
