This Henry Hathaway-directed drama examines how the Mormons settled in what would become Salt Lake City, now the home base of their church. Tyrone Pow...(read more...) er and Linda Darnell play two of the faithful who leave Illinois at the urging of Mormon church founder Joseph Smith (Vincent Price). When Smith is killed, Brigham Young (Dean Jagger) leads the flock west, where they discover a hostile land, a harsh winter and a mountain of difficulties.
