(read more) Carl and Molly Peterson are just starting their new life together --complete with a cute house, boring neighbors, stable jobs and the routines of newlywed existence. There's just one unfortunate hitch in their perfectly constructed new world. And his name is Dupree. Randy Dupree, Carl's oldest friend and perpetual bachelor, has found himself with nowhere to go after being fired. Carl yanks his jobless/homeless pal out of the bar he's living in and invites him to temporarily crash on the couch -- that's just what friends do. At first, Carl is quite pleased to have his good buddy as a permanent couch guest, while Molly bears the brunt of Dupree's immature antics. But, as Carl becomes buried in his grown-up job, he finds it harder and harder to juggle Dupree and his responsibilities as a husband. To make matters worse, Dupree uses his ample spare time to become a great companion for Molly. Even her dad and the neighbors are falling for his carefree wisdom and charm -- frustrating Carl to no end. Soon, everyone (but Carl) begins to root for Dupree to stick around. But as Dupree starts to become a fixture in the Peterson's home, three becomes not just a crowd -- but a full blown, hilarious catastrophe.

Great cast, there aren't constantly laughs, but it is a nice balance between great jokes and a great story. Worth a watch.

You the perfect cast for such, albeit I didn't really like Matt Dillon in this. I just don't see the fellow as Kate Hudson's man. It just doesn't work for me. On the other hand, you Owen Wilson as Dupree, or should I say himself? Then you have Michael Douglas as the hard ass father figure and Seth Rogen as the funny guy trapped in his marriage. It's actually nice to see Rogen in a role where isn't effing all the time.
I'd say the plot is rather generic. It doesn't have anything particularly special, but it isn't half bad either. I think the film has a too bad reputation. I expected more crummy humour, but it was limited to some toilet humour, porn stashing and jacking off. However, I do have to admit that most of that was unnecessary. The film would very likely be better without the toilet scene.
I recommend this film to anyone who likes romantic comedies, or to people with affection to gorgeous Kate Hudson. However, if you can't stand Owen Wilson playing the same role as in many other films or if you are not into romantic comedies, do skip this flick.
Well, I've discovered my Kristy-ness. Bahahahaha!!!! Couldn't resist. (See very end of movie if you don't know what I'm talking about!) Owen Wilson cracked me up in this movie. Two or three laughs, but basically a standard little hollywood formula.
Pretty bad movie, there's already so many dam comedies out there and this movie does little or nothing to stand out.
the best joke to discribe this movie is the movie itself. these actors can do better to make us laugh
Critic Reviews
You, Me and Dupree seems to have been made by people who don't know the difference between a light comedy and an inconsequential one.full review
Wilson deserves better, too. He's too smart to make me believe he'd actually think this movie is funny.full review
Yet another comedy about a man-child who won't grow up, You, Me and Dupree has the faintly stale smell of food left overnight on the counter.full review
If Wilson's trademark grin is looking jaundiced by the finale, he has only himself to blame. With You, Me and Dupree, he has produced a movie as lazy and immature as its title character.full review
You, Me & Dupree is best when Wilson is on-screen, mucking around with exquisite deadbeat timing, baring his all -- or his almost -- as the situation demands.full review
Director brothers Anthony and Joe Russo manage to keep the pace moving for the first two-thirds, steering clear of overt touchy-feeliness or extreme gross-outs. Then they suddenly lose their grip, and Wilson's good 20 minutes is up.full review
Owen Wilson delivers, of course — but he delivers what he always does: a blue-eyed, fluffy-haired amiability that's pretty much irresistible, and the picture is as light and insubstantial as an empty éclair.full review
You, Me And Dupree drains Owen Wilson's tank of charm down to the fumes.full review
