Wickedly funny comedy with Chaplin as a modern day bluebeard in France. Hilarious scenes and takes from all actors involved. Best scenes come with Martha Raye and Chaplin trying every chance he has to kill her with no avail. Wonderfully directed b... (read more)

A comedy, but a dark comedy. I enjoyed this a lot and thought the message about society at the end was delivered so well: one murder makes a villian, thousands a hero. Chaplin is a genius.

i liked this movie a lot, and felt that the dark humor behind it was played out very well, it was never over the top.

Remember "The man who wasn't there" (I like it very much as well)? This Chaplin's film is even better! Probably the best film starring Charlie (at least in my own opinion).

Another great Chaplin film, that is hilarious yet very dark and depressing. Chaplin is awsome in it though and I wish that I could count my money the way that he does.

Bleak late Chaplin film, partly a critique of capitalism, but also filled with sheer disgust for human conduct in the world. Some impressive passages on manipulation and economic necessity, particularly relevant in our recession-stricken times.

I've only seen a handful of Chaplin films, but this one is definitely my favorite of them. It's a great black comedy that I highly recommend. Definitely ahead of its time.
