Forget Hollow Man...the original Universal version is far better. Rains gives a better performance with his face covered than the other actors do. What's really a blast is seeing Gloria Stuart in her heyday, long before Titanic.

Okay, I so did not realize that was the old chick from Titanic! Weird. And Clarence Oddbody! I think it's pretty cool how they made him invisible and stuff, but it obviously wasn't going to end too well. Plus, he was a bastard.

A lot of laughs. There's a funny mix of dark and light sense of humor, but this is a classic. Claude Rains is diverse in his acting, and excellent. Another Universal Horror film in the Hall of Fame.

Claude Rains is charismatically evil. For 1933, the effects achieved to create the character's invisibility is impressive. The last scene where we finally see Rains is brilliant.

Tal vez la que más fiel a la novela se mantiene, especialmente todo su comienzo... sólo añadiendo un elemento romantico al personaje que no existia en la novela (pero un placer ver a Gloria Stuart en uno de sus primeros papeles, aunque ahora todos la recordemos como la abuela del "Titanic" de Cameron)... estupendos (e ingenuos) efectos especiales de la epóca, pero que gracias al sarcasmo de Whale contando la historia, la impresionante voz de Claude Rains y la estupenda direccion artistica... consigue que todo funcione maravillosamente...

It was a much different time, film with sound was still a new concept, and many actors still adhered to a stage or radio style of acting. Overacting? Oh yeah. An entire generation of actors who inspired the Shatners to come. It can be mind boggling to try and figure out what is scary about these films, but again, simpler times. It didn't take much to shock people back then. It is that simpler more innocent time that makes these films so charming and timeless.

The Invisible Man can be seen as an allegory to the fears building up about technology and the film itself mentions the formula was developed with military applications in mind. Something very palpable with one World War behind them and another looming. It is easy to begin to understand how the concept of an invisible man might seem scary to that generation.

The film itself is something to marvel at as well. James Whale managed to create some of the first compositing effects ever laid to film. Now this is easily done with computers and a green screen. Back then they are overlaying layers of film on a Steenbeck. A long and precise process that is an impressive feet. Whale pays close attention to small details to sell that an invisible person is present. From foot prints forming in the snow to the lighting of a cigarette.

By today's standards this wouldn't even rank as a B movie but put in context of its generation it is an impressive piece of work that still out does subsequent reimaginings of the concept (which speaks to how bad they all are) and a classic that introduced one of the legendary pop horror icons that continues to stand the tests of time.

Brilliant and fun, with moments of twisted dark humour, and of course, Claude Rains fantastic acting.

Special effects still hold up quite well making this a pretty enterainting film. I would have liked it more if one of the main supporting characters didn't strike me as quite stupid.

James Whale made the best of the Universal horor film back in the day. Claude Rains gives a magnificent perormance despite only really being seen for seconds at the end.
