(read more) While Christian Bale gives his all and there are some tense moments, i found myself wondering what exactly this movie was about. Character driven films can work, but that is of course if the character has a point. American Psycho has some grizzly killings and some intense moments, but its weak supporting cast, social banter and hollow center prevent me from recommending this movie. I liked Christian Bale a lot in this movie, he uses over acting, self narration and suaveness to make a very unlikeable and entertaining character. I only wish the supporting cast was up to par. Every performance seems like a filler role. Reese Witherspoon as his fiancee does herself no justice as she comes off as really ditzy and moronic. Bale's buddies are oozing with male chauvinism that perfectly explains why they are all still single. However the killings in this movie are just plain over the top. It is quite horrific how he does much of the killing and quite disturbing as well which i liked. I can't exactly go into details or that would ruin your fun. But what i really didn't like about this movie is the fact that it doesn't seem so say anything more than we already know about mass murderers which is that they are crazy. The film gives us nothing new that we haven't seen in any of these type of movie, and instead of digging deeper it instead goes more violent with the killings. I also was annoyed at the fact that it tried to be to Hitchcock like about the whole thing. The music, the style, hell even Bale's character name is Bateman. Hint Hint. All in all, American Psycho is a fun movie to watch no doubt, but you get nothing out it. American Psycho is a movie with menacing killings, but feels empty as everything is done to no end. Thumbs down.

Brilliantly disturbing and beautifully shot film. Bateman is so compulsive you almost feel sorry for him. Christian Bale is amazing in this role.
