One of Arnie's best, performance-wise too. A brilliant sci-fi thriller full of fun, lots of ultraviolence (courtesy of Paul Verhoeven), twists and double-crosses.
All I recall is the scene with the giant ball pulled out the nose and the 3 boo...you get the point.

One day he goes to a place for a virtual vacation to Mars with a virtual identity as a spy. But the memory implant goes wrong, and soon he his life has been flipped around and people are out to kill him as if he really were a spy. This movie was very action packed and entertaining, though it holds the very difficult question of whether what was going on was real or just a dream? It's complex to understand, yes, and it can be viewed from multiple perspectives, but that's what I like about it!
I think that arnold is one of the worst actors ever, but this has an amazing storyline, and great special effects for the time.
classic futuristic action film by paul verhoeven. from its odd characters to its verhoeven-esque use of sex scenes, a three breasted woman and arnold using an innocent bystander as a human shield, this is vintage action cheese at its finest
Paranoid scitzophrenic and satirical masterpiece (how the film cannot be anything less than great when it ends in lobotomy?). Also can be viewed as a mindless violent entertaitment product, I won't blame you.
This was awsome. So Arnold, playing Doug Quaid, wants to visit mars. He sgns up for a "False Memory" oa trip to mars fom a company called "Rekall". A cyberpunk classic based of the novel by Philip.K.Dick. Lots of anrie action and tons of violence(Its a Paul Verhoeven film they always have tons of violence). Tons of cool fighting scenes and a great twist at the end make for a fun time.
For the record, I would totally love to go to Saturn. It looks lovely.

Total Recall is an Arnold Schwarzenegger sci-fi movie in which he plays a secret agent trying to liberate the people of Mars from a spastic tyrant who won't let them breathe free air. Confused yet? Well, the movie plays out in a breathtakingly exciting succession of chases, gunfights and all manner of awesome, gore-streaked insanity. Schwarzenegger's acting is hammy, but he's fun to watch, and had already mastered his craft of being incredibly fun to watch. The plot is dynamic, dark and exciting despite not really being much new, and it threw me for a loop a few times with its curvy twists. This isn't really anything astounding, but it's a lot of fun. Check it out.

And yet, alongside this, his style also imparts a tongue-in-cheek feel which certainly doesn't detract from the entertainment value. You've certainly got to love Arnie's one-liners: "You've got a lot of nerve showing your face around here," an ugly, twisted mutant expostulates. "Look who's talking!" Arnie archly replies.
And when all is said and done, can you be sure that the events of the film really happened to Quaid, or was it all part of his "Ego-Trip" experience?
Come to think of it, can you be sure your own life is real, and not some drug-induced escapist mental implant?
I think I can. Nobody would fantasize about having a life like mine.
Critic Reviews
There may be people who overlook the Arnold Schwarzenegger performance in Total Recall who think he isn't really acting. But the performance is one of the reasons the movie works so well.full review
