Obnoxious film, and although it would have been unwanted I strongly object to the use of the term "was treated for pregnancy..."
Looking for a good old movie? See this one again or for the first time. Either way, I'm sure you'll enjoy it. I give it 4 STARS.
Horrible, horrible adaptation of a so-so novel. The novel was not DeMille's best work, and this movie was not anybodys best work. It was worse than mediocre!
Good thriller mystery and actually better than my expectations. the storyline keeps you interested in the mystery towards the end when the truth is revealed in a powerful setting.
Very suspenceful, very good acting on Travolta's part. Really sad what that girl went through. I mean, I understand what they were trying to say, if you don't know which 6 guys did the gang rape and you have no way of finding out, then you can't punish the thousand guys who were at the academy. But you DON'T tell someone to forget it ever happened either!! That's just not a humane thing to do.
DoP was good. he or she seemd to prefer wide shot and i liked that. dialogue especially between Travolta - James Woods was good too. story-wise, hmmm...

and john travolta...amazing actor....every one should see it

The cast are all very strong, and add a bit of credence to a fairly overblown plot. Woods and Travolta have some excellent dialogues together, and even the forced flirtation between Stowe and Travolta has the lines delivered well between scenes of a rape investigation. It's another military themed film that attacks the military for it's "all for one" attitude, and also addresses issues of women in the military. West is a master of thrills, and this sits up there with Con Air for pure Hollywood escapism.

A lurid mess, a Southern gumbo simmering in Gothic cliche.full review
The General's Daughter is a well-made thriller with a lot of good acting.full review
There's a line at which a movie stops being about something nasty and becomes one more example of the nastiness it's supposedly condemning.full review
