Several perspectives of different inmates in a gritty and corrupt prison. Jackie Chan is a minor character and he was obviously exploited on the credits and dvd cover. Some decent action, but the story is really weird and convoluted. There are also homages to most prison films, such as Papillon, and especially Cool Hand Luke. They got tiresome and it just seemed they ran out ideas so let's just do a scene from Cool Hand Luke.
i loved it.. extremely touching scenes and ''heroic bloodshed''
simply awesome movie,,even though Jackie Chan died :(
thats something unique to see !

Very far from Jui kuen II (released 4 years after) or Ging chat goo si (released 5 years before). If you are a fan of Jackie Chan, you could find it interesting but this should not be on the top of your list. Jackie Chan does not have a leading role. Tony Leung Ka Fai and Sammo-Hung Kam Bo have more important roles.
Nevertheless, this movie is a very classical Hong Kong (although it is a Taiwanese movie) police/kung fu/mob movie with no real surprise except its darkness. Although the basic idea of the movie is very good, the script has been quickly written. Some scenes are completely useless and are just filler : Jackie Chan playing snooker, Sammo-Hung Kam Bo with the sexy girl... The music is very bad and annoying after 1 hour of movie.
I am not sure that my French (poorly) dubbed version is the original full cut as some of the editing is very strange. Some scenes are succeeding without any sense and you jump from comedy to drama to kung fu to police scenes all the time. It made me think of another Jackie Chan/Sammo-Hung Kam Bo movie : Qi mou miao ji: Wu fu xing.
Anyway, if you are a fan of "Chinese" movies, you might be entertained, otherwise this is not worth your time.
A rip-off of several better movies one of which is COOL HAND LUKE. The fact that I know the woman who washed the car (in COOL HAND LUKE) made the spoof of that scene in this movie the funniest scene in the movie!
All star cast, and a good movie, not realy an action flick but a gritty prison drama. Whats with the ending though, they suddenly start killing loads of people. Why? It really comes out of nowhere
Not the best Jackie chan movie out there...watch it only if ur a true jackie chan fan like me..
Just a ripoff of Cool Hand Luke, and Jackie Chan isn't even the star of the movie.
A mix of Cool Hand Luke and the the Dirty Dozen which falls apart a bit at the end.
Good movie, not the best in crime-drama, and Jackie isn't the star. Sammo Hung and Tony Leung are great!
