A great story from Ben Elton and the movie is quite quirky, very British. I still always laugh when joely gets on the bike, but all in all petty badly made.
An awful film with awful acting - turned it off after 40 mins - it was just the same thing over & over!
This movie was actually a dissapointment. Considering the talent involved, the humor was just not there
Hugh, Emma, Rowan - they all were wonderful in this film. I actually read the book by Elton and he must be one of the funniest people an earth.
Ben Elton kind of discovered Laurie as the romantic lead.
Fell in love with him here all those years ago..............so nasty as house and still i love him......Joely is also beautiful.......only Rowan A was miscast......

Remembered that i caught this movie when it first came out in 2000 with a date.....didnt see him again after this movie......now when i think about it....he might have thought i was hinting at havin babies with him or sumthin.........stupid boy! I bet he still is.......
This was better than I thought it would be, funny and dealt with a few issues - you could definitely tell it was a Ben Elton story. Plenty of good British actors, pretty decent all in all.
Critic Reviews
The problem with this romantic comedy is that although it eventually winds its way to a conclusion that feels right, it takes too many convoluted steps to get there.full review
