In this film based on a true story, director Kirk Wong brings a gritty sense of realism to the action-filled police thriller while allowing plenty of opportunities for Jackie to show his stuff, notably in the bravura climax, a solo battle with the gang that culminates in a raging fire that devours a creaky apartment complex around them. Wong's sleek, hard-edged style meshes well with Jackie's acrobatic vigor, and Chan proves to be an adept and effective dramatic performer. However, fans expecting his trademark physical gags and comic interludes may be disappointed. This is a startlingly different side of the versatile Mr. Chan, and his performance helps make this grim "policier" one of the best serious Hong Kong action thrillers to date. --Sean Axmaker

Much has been said about all his acting in it. It's great! Based on a true story. And while not full of action like his others, the story keeps things going and it's awesome. The fights that do happen are well choreographed. It's nice to see the story balance itself out with the action. There are a few small things holding it back from being a masterpiece; a car driving down a very steep hill, the sudden shift from gunplay to martial arts towards the end, and restarting a heart by car battery. It's a good flick from Hong Kong. Highly recommended, although I do see some people claiming it boring cause they are looking for the normal Jackie Chan.
A decent plot, some decent fight scenes, and some good explosions. Unfortunately, it's a bit too serious for its own good, and is lacking an really memorable stunts.

In front of Chan, a Taiwanese crime lord threatens to spill what he knows about Fatso, to which Fatso responds by killing him and all Chan does is get a little suspicious. Chan doesn't even tell anyone else about his suspicions and the obese one continues to annoyingly interfere. The infuriating, corpulent cop wrecks havoc on the enjoyability of the film, but everything else holds up pretty well. The explosions and fire are better than Police Story.
Less comedic and more serious, this gritty cop thriller has some good action. Chan tries acting this time around.
Yup, Jackie Chan pulls off a serious role. Although even if he isn't being goofy he still comes off as a little rambunctious... like a puppy.

Classic Jackie Chan movie with action/good stunts and some humor mixed in.

Note, there's no outtake reel at the end of this movie either, which I guess is good since that means Jackie didn't get hurt, but still....

Based on a true story of a kiddnapping in Hong Kong that united three police forces and riddled with vintage Chan fight scenes that were more brutel than comical (like most of his U.S. work), but also as Chan being purely serious and playing to heart a dedicated police officer that knows when something is wrong. It's also his most stylish looking film, which is understandable considering it's from director Kirk Wong ('The Big Hit'), a John Woo protege.
