one of my favourite jackie chans. the fight scenes are overshadowed by his later stuff (especially the sequels to this) but very original in that respect anyway. the 'master' character is ace. love it as a bizarre portrayal of alcoholism as well
Part two may be a tad superior but that doesn't mean we should ignore the one that started it al. Jackie Chan was just entering the peak of his physical powers, a blend of martial arts and Buster Keaton-like slapstick that simply astonishes.

With Jackie Chan embodying the persona of Loki the trickster, Drunken Master is a whimsical kung fu movie which is fun more for its comedy than its well-choreographed fight scenes.
The comedy's a little cheesy (though humorous at times) but the fight scenes more than make up for it.

It has a classic coming-of-age story arc channeled through a lowbrow, silly storytelling that mercilessly mocks the Chinese folk-hero Wong Fei-Hung, and unlike most Hong Kong martial-arts cinema from the time this one IS ACTUALLY TOLD COHERENTLY. Definitely worth the watch!
