A sensitive and understated film. Under stated, well written and extremely well acted. I felt like I was watching a play. Sayles shows all sides of the foreign adoption argument without allowing opinions or politics to cloud the viewers' impressions.

I thought that the slow unfolding of these women's actual personalities, juxtaposed against the theme of 'Lottery' , and adoption, was breath taking.

This was my first viewing of a Sayles flick, and I wasn't impressed. The six women weren't particularly round characters, and I would have preferred more discussion of the state's role in interracial and international adoption.

Foreign adoption viewed from all angles. Especially touching is the scene of the two ladies sharing their adoption stories but not understanding one another due to the language barrier.

Very good movie looking at the adoption game. I like the line when the guy said "We provide the raw materials and they refine it" Very apt. See it.

Weakest of the Sayles movies...something was missing. The characters were weak for a character driven piece.

Kivaa puhetta, hyvää yhteiskunnallista kommentointia, uskottavat elävät hahmot...mutta aika töks-töks etenevää elokuvaa.

A typical John Sayles film, where plot takes a back seat and theme and character development get pushed to the forefront. Not as strong as "Lone Star," "Limbo" or "Passion Fish," but insightful and refreshing nonetheless.

Quiet, thought-provoking look at international adoption through the eyes of six diverse women waiting for babies in a Latin American hotel.

Social commentary. Interesting look at class, race, and entitlement as six American women wait for the chance to adopt a baby in an un-named latin American country.
