Dedicated to showing the dismal lives of teen junkies in '70s Berlin, "Christiane F." has a deserved reputation as one of the more grim drug films to come out of that genre (although, for my money, nothing beats the Al Pacino downer, "Panic in Needle... (read more) Dedicated to showing the dismal lives of teen junkies in '70s Berlin, "Christiane F." has a deserved reputation as one of the more grim drug films to come out of that genre (although, for my money, nothing beats the Al Pacino downer, "Panic in Needle Park"). The kids hovering around Zoo Station prostitute themselves and shoot up in an endless, dreary cycle, all the while resembling a gaggle of extras from "Night of the Living Dead." There's some impressive projectile vomiting in the de rigeur cold turkey scene, and David Bowie's Low/Heroes-era tunes are used to great effect. Natja Brunckhorst does an excellent job of going from a sweet, attractive young girl who just wants to hang out at the hippest disco in town to a glazed-eye junkie who barely flinches at sticking a needle in her arm. Whatever allure this scene may have held for those drawn to it is ruthlessly and effectively debunked in scene after depressing scene.

This film has definitely aged and drags a bit throughout. The kids are terrible, but thats only a minor distraction from the overwhelmingly terrible and powerful story.

Per il resto, è un grosso consiglio a non drogarsi, è come quei filmati educativi con le immagini degli incidenti d'auto che invitano i ragazzi a non bere e guidare. Drogàti!

The subject matter is shocking (first time watching this film is very uncomfortable) and pulls no punches- but it portrays the awful desperation of addiction and loneliness in a very reaslistic and believable way. One of my favourite scenes shows the reality that even messed up junkies can have fun & kids running around a shopping centre late at night avoiding the coppers to the tune of 'Heroes/ Helden' by David Bowie... a glorious moment of youthful happiness that counterpoints later horrors superbly. The cast are excellent and it works well either in subtitled german or dubbed English. I have watched this many many times..... You can sleep all you want... when you're dead!

Harrowing über realistic look at the heroin scene and the sad reality surrounding it in late 70s Berlin. Everything is kept simple and therefore realistic. Based on the true life story of Christiane F. it's shocking and brilliantly realised.
