Clint Eastwood superbly crafts this dark and powerful tale, which is greatly benefited by its wonderful performances from Sean Penn and Tim Robbins.
Mystic River is teeming with various elements that flow together to create one of the finest movies of the year.
i love Clint Eastwood's realisation and this one is not an exception with a great disturbing story.
It wasn't to bad, but I had problems with the plot line. One, it's to long. I know it had to tell a story but was taking forever. I was getting bored with it! I know it had to tell a story but was taking forever. I was getting bored with it! I also had problems trying to understand the motive of the deaf boy and his friend's murdering the girl. I wish that was explained, or if was, I certainly did not catch on.
Sean Penn of course did excellent acting, but Smalls was killing me. Come on! There is some pretty disturbing scenes in the intro so warning, just wish the ending was done better. it didn't quite mesh well with the rest of the story.
A powerful, deeply effective, chilling and brooding thriller.Such a film should not be missed for it's power, suspense, tragedy and emotion.
can a movie suck with such an all-star cast? it certainly can. this is incredibly overrated.
i liked this but it isn't the kind of movie that makes a lasting impact. we see how 3 boys growing up in boston follow different paths in life. i think eastwood gets the tone right in the film but perhaps the ending is too realistic...
Sean Penn, does it again, with an academy award winning perfomance by Tim Robbins, directed by Clint Eastwood
Sean Penn and Kevin Bacon are just great, specially Sean Penn; Clint Eastwood does a not so good nor so bad job with this one, it's entertaining, but it's no masterpiece.

For all its missteps, Mystic River gets the big things right: It turns you inside out with grief.full review
The acting throughout is exceptional, rooted in observed realism, but suggestive of more mythical agents at work through the lives of human beings.full review
Eastwood's most soulful, and most organic, movie.full review

A compelling film that could have been a classic with some judicious editing in the end and a rethink of the climax.full review
Mystic River is the rare American movie that aspires to -- and achieves -- the full weight and darkness of tragedy.full review
