The Wasp football team goes all the way -- into the cellar, that is, when quarterback Jake Wyler makes an errant pass and Reggie Ray racks up his umpteenth concussion. Things perk up at a dazzling year-end prom when conjoined twins Kara and Sally Fratelli are crowned prom queens. Other highlights from this year include a nasty toilet explosion that drops in the middle of Mr. Keller's English class, Jake fails to seduce Janey with a human whipped cream sundae and Janey is apprehended by police after Jake's moving serenade of Aerosmith's "Janey's Got a Gun". Many new faces deck the halls this year, including Sadie, a 90 year-old undercover reporter and foreign exchange student Areola, who becomes the object of lust for all American nerds. Malik continues to be the "token black guy," Catherine is still in love with her brother, Bruce still thinks he's Asian, and Ox is still a virgin...

So grab a bowl of popcorn and howl... and admit that most of what they say and do you were thinking in your head while you watched all those silly teen movies that took themselves so uber-serious.
Spoofs a lot of teen movies very effectively...still not very good, but better than the rest of the "fill-in-the-blank Movie" series.

Some of the spoofing of John Hughes' movies is spot on, with situations and characters lifted wholesale from his movies (even including a cameo by Molly Ringwald at the end) - they even name the school after him. The story is soooo typical of this genre of teenage angst, it doesn't really matter any more. What lets it down in parts is the gratuitous grossness (e.g. spraying everyone with excrement) which just isn't funny - I am absolutely sure they could have made these scenes funnier if they just hadn't been so lazy! The master himself, John Hughes, never sunk that low.
What's nice, however, is that, although they are spoofing these movies, it does seem to be out of genuine "love", or, let's say, fondness.

I think I kinda overlooked this one, because it's easy to mis-categorize this movie into the hordes of horrible and horribly unfunny spoof movies like Epic Movie, Disaster Movie, Meet the Spartans, and all that crap. Not Another Teen Movie is considerably more savvy than those films and I never really gave it much of a chance before my buddy Alex convinced me it was worth watching.
I think the thing that separates Not Another Teen Movie from the other spoofs of late is that it doesn't generally allow its humor to fall back into simple allusion. By that I mean, simple imitation of a movie doesn't make it funny. But Not Another Teen Movie knows that and works to twist around the basic teen movie conventions in a way that honestly comments on the genre. Or at least attempts to. The jokes don't always work, but the ones that fall flat are at least trying something.
Chris Evans shines in an early role here, and he brings his trademark wise-ass charm to a character that was explicitly built to be a stereotype, and that's no small feat. I will say, however, that a prominent dark spot for me was the wannabe character played by Samm Levine. I understand the basic idea of taking the wannabe white kid character and making him talk with an Asian accent instead of a Black accent, but I don't really see that much that's funny about it, and it took quite a while for me to realize what the joke was in the first place. I don't feel like I'm particularly sensitive about my racial identity, but I did feel vaguely insulted.
I think above all, it's clear that the people that made this movie really truly love the movies that they're making fun of. And that makes the whole thing feel more good-natured. I was surprised, but I enjoyed this spoof.

Since I hate teen movies with a passion this was a real kick for me. It really reminded me of the Zuckerberg brother's with all the outrageous humour, but it had some really smart comedy as well. I just loved how the script exposed all of those ridiculous archetypes and stereotypes found in teen movies. Hilarious movie, worth watching.

In the immortal words of teen movies: It's totally lame.full review
The makers of Not Another Teen Movie should be embarrassed that, in parodying She's All That, they copied most of the plot and then made a movie that bogs down in the same places as the original.full review
Not Another Teen Movie is a happy, nasty and frequently hilarious assault on 20 years' worth of youth pictures.full review
It was not good to see yet still more wretched excess in the jokes about characters being sprayed with vast quantities of excrement.full review
