Ehh, not so great. You'd be better off watching The Untouchables, The Godfather, or basically any other movie involving the mob.
pretty good, though could have been cut here and there - feels slightly too long. great cast, though.
Great movie! Story line was good, Laurence Fishburne was fine and Cicely Tyson was as beautiful as ever!

The story of Bumpy Johnson is interesting, as most rise to power stories are... but sadly it isn't put together too well. Some non-matching edits and made-for-tv look to it (despite the violence and language) stands in the way of it being a really effective movie. Laurence Fishburne is amazing as Bumpy and Tim Roth I love, though his Schultz seemed to... I don't know... not my favorite role for him. Some other "I know you" faces pop up here and there too. All in all, it's worth a watch if you're interested in the genre.

I thought it was cool gangster film with some good shoot out scenes. Although I felt the film was not as dark as it could be and suffered for it. There were too many scenes that did not connect and it felt like it did not flow as well as it good. Laurence Fishburne is great. Overall though it was entertaining but the ending was not as climatic as I was hoping for.

Based on real characters and events, it tells the story of 'Bumpy' Johnson's turf war against Dutch Schultz for the control of Harlem's numbers racket. A brilliant Tim Roth, seething with arrogance, violence and menace almost steals the film from Fishburne and it is ultimately these two performances that stick in the mind long after the film has faded from memory.
Lawrence Fishbourne is awesome as Bumpy Johnson! A tale that is on target and finally told!!!!!!!!!!!!
A fun look at a well-known period in history from an unusual perspective. The three central performances are great, and the score is very good, too.

Has Laurence Fishburn in his pre-Morpheus days as the Ellsworth 'Bumpy' Johnson taking over for the Queen of Harlem at running the Numbers, an illegal gambling operation while battling the psychopathic Dutch Schultz, played masterfully by Tim Roth. It's amazing to see such a convincing portrayal of a New York mobster with the perfect accent done by a man who is from England. Roth does amazing work just like Edward Norton, a man who has also played people with an American accent despite not being one himself. Check out Roth in Reservoir Dogs if you can.
This also has Andy Garcia as Lucky Luciano, a gangster who is old fashioned with his polite and well mannered attitude. William Atherton is here too, as a crooked prosecutor who takes pay offs from Luciano. He was that annoying, opportunistic reporter in Die Hard 1 and 2, hahahaha.
